Bible Study

What do you think of when you hear the words: “Bible Study”? Does it sound boring? Confusing? It doesn’t have to be. That’s why we start by biting off what we can chew and then keep adding to that as we understand and are ready for more.

Get a good kid’s Bible
There are many different Bibles that have been organized just for use by kids like you. The Bible is the same as your parent’s Bible, but in addition there are stories and questions that are written with you in mind. Reading God’s word a little each day is like chewing on good food that helps your body grow strong. Could you last very long without food? No! Just like we need physical food, a Christ follower can’t go without reading God’s word (spiritual food) for very long either.

Make a Bible Study Notebook / Journal
Everyone who is a follower of Jesus has been given the gift of the Holy Spirit to guide and direct him or her in making decisions about life. When we read the Bible, God’s Holy Spirit will put a thought in our mind that we don’t want to forget. Maybe there’s a question that you want to pray about until God gives you an answer. That’s where a notebook or journal that is set aside just for Bible Study is important. Write down your thoughts as you read the Bible. It could be as simple as writing the date, Bible passage that you are reading, and what you learned.

How do you learn from the Bible?
Ask the questions:

  1. Who is the person who wrote these words?
  2. Who did they write this for (audience)?
  3. What is this author saying?
  4. When was this written?
  5. Where does this story take place?
  6. What did I learn by reading this?
  7. Does God want me to do something different?
  8. Is there something I need to pray about after reading this?
